Uche Fuels Dominant Crystal Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.

Even though embarking on their first-ever European adventure, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without star players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club left Dublin with a comfortable result that all but secures them a spot in the Conference League qualifying rounds.

A further three points in their next match against Finnish KuPS should be sufficient to secure straight passage to the knockout stages, especially after a previous setback against Strasbourg.

Fringe Players Grasp the Moment

This occasion provided a chance for several Palace's fringe talent to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second start after arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a clinical goal. Forward Eddie Nketiah added a second, scoring for the second consecutive succession.

The Shelbourne side that had finished their domestic season were outmatched against a largely rotated Palace outfit. The Londoners were already depleted by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg injuries.

Control Established from the Outset

In spite of heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A flowing passing sequence in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward tap-in.

Youngster Adam Wharton went close soon after, fizzing a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah subsequently claimed for a penalty after racing into the box, but the official waved away the protests.

Ex-Arsenal striker didn't need to wait long to find his goal, prodding home from a yard out after Uche's effort had hit the post.

Shelbourne were clinging on desperately. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to avoid a booking for a couple of agricultural challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a header from a corner.

Pino Seals the Contest

The match was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some weak challenges before coolly slotting a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.

Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest key individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse almost scoring with his first touch, but saw his shot blocked.

Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then missed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.

A solitary concern for Palace was a late knock to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to earn his senior debut, capping an otherwise positive evening for the traveling side.
